Hi Verso.

12A. Figures = Physiques
'extreme' letters - 'PHYSIotherapy techniQUES'
physi + ques

12D Most punctual = Promptest
member = MP
proMPtest

55D. Vulnerable = Unprotected
expert = pro
'Ive' gone from the word 'detectIVE' = detect
un + pro + detect are an anagram of 'unprotected'

72D. Amazing = Awesome
respect = awe
'some' beneath 'awe' = awesome

59D. Keeps in touch with = Corresponds
matches = corresponds

Still looking at the others for you.

I did some more thinking about 47d and conclude that "splinters" is correct viz

bookmaker = "sp" ie starting price
trainee = learner ie "l"
buries = "inters"

the whole meaning "fragments"

I'm (as always) impressed by butterfly's care and attention in explaining her answers & , like her, will try and work out the remainder.

Happy New Year!

Hi Verso and Lmur.

It's nice to talk to you again Lmur Very Happy . Hope you had a wonderful Christmas! All the best for the New Year!

74A. Puts in too many = Overcrowds
'cover words' is an anagram of 'overcrowds'

Verso, I agree with Lmur's answer of Fragments = Splinters for 47D.
Just follow Lmur's break up of the clue.

Thanks, Butterfly - have to admit I wasn't familiar with the odd-even technique for finding answers in Cryptics.

Another weapon for the armoury!

And good luck Verso!
