Remove Zinc ions from cupric nitrate sol'n

I have students making decorations using galvanized metal treated with cupric nitrate. I'd like to recover the remaining cupric nitrate when we're done. Is there a way to remove the zinc ions generated from the RedOx reaction before I try to re-crystalize the cupric nitrate?
