I don't remember anything like that at all. It's almost a given that people develop a hiatal hernia by the time they reach 40, some even younger. Most are managed by drugs that quell the acid reflux. I'd be willing to bet, nearly half of posters over 35 have at least a small hernia. Normally easily treated, no need to be overly alarmed.

Yeah, I have acid reflux.

I've gone through days spitting up acid. After getting through those days, it makes you feel like a god. The pain really puts you down on your knees. And then when you rise, you really stand - you don't just "stand", you stand tall.

But I mean it's not the hernia - it's the surgical procedure. I'm not sure if you're aware of what goes on behind closed doors in the surgical room.
