I'm supposed to write a poem about a Glitter Bug, and I don't know what it is. I googled, and found all sorts of weird things. What is it? Is it something like a fire fly? Should I look for the information under a different name?
Thank you,
Lost
Angelique, I think a glitter bug might be the larvae of the lightning bug.
"glow little glow worm glitter, glitter"
My mom loved this song:
Glow little glow-worm, fly of fire
Glow like an incandescent wire
Glow for the female of the species, turn on the AC and the DC.
This night could use a little brightnin'
Light up you little ol' bug of lightnin'
When you gotta glow, you gotta glow-- glow little glow-worm, glow.
Glow little glow-worm, glow and glimmer
Swim through the sea of night, little swimmer
Thou aeronautical boll weevil, illuminate yon woods primeval.
See how the shadows deep and darken
You and your chick should get to sparkin'
I got a gal that I love so -- glow little glow-worm, glow
Glow little glow-worm, turn the key on
You are equipped with taillight neon
You got a cute vest-pocket *Mazda*
Which you can make both slow and *fazda*
I don't know who you took a shine to
Or who you're out to make a sign to
I got a gal that I love so glow little glow-worm, glow,
Thank you Letty for your help, and the lovely song

I will look under lightning bug.
Lightning Bugs
They are the same as fireflies.

Can glitter bugs be the same thing?
I would say so, Angelique, but they are all beetles, and the glow worm is the larvae of the firefly/lightning bug. I know because I have seen them on the banks of a river in Virginia. I wish that I could describe them more accurately; it's as though a great spirit had redeemed the world from darkness in a special way, with a gentle reminder of morning.
I have seen fireflies. Some years ago I was upstate, and stayed in a motel by a river. I saw many fireflies at night by the river. It was so beautiful

Our room was by the river at ground level, and it felt like it was our very own backyard.
The experience by the lake, and a dream I had inspired me to write this poem.
God
Determined to see God
Upon entering the portal of sleep
With outstretched wings
I set my mark
High I flew above the wet clouds
Away from the green and blue of earth
Into a myriad of sparkling stars
Past planets~galaxies and uncharted space
Higher still I flew into the black void
Where no stars or galaxies exist
Then I saw God~Gasp
An immense globe~brilliant~~pulsating~a living thing
The light that emitted from this sphere
Was of such magnitude that it
Illuminated all the deep dark void
Closer still I flew
This pulsating mass of energy
Constantly multiplied itself
Into smaller sparks~continually
Releasing them in all directions into space
These tiny living things
Like a million fire flies in the night
Traveled very far~searching for a home
They settled in all the galaxies
In time~each grew and prospered
According to each environment
All having the spark of God
Beginning of all life in the universe
Lovely, dear. Later, I will make some suggestions, if I may.

Just did some editing. I have many poems that need editing. Interesting some of the characters did not show up.
Really like this stanza:
High I flew above the wet clouds
Away from the green and blue of earth
Into a myriad of sparkling stars
Past planets~galaxies and uncharted space.
I would omit the "gasp" after, "..and then I saw God..."
Try not to overuse "galaxies".
Remember, honey. Find the word that evokes the image that you wish to create and have the reader soar with you, just as the fire of the smallest creature makes the world glow.
I finished the Glitter Bug poem, and I posted it.
