well, we sat at large tables, with a large piece of paper, some rulers and a pencil, and made precisely scaled * meticulously labeled mechanical drawings of such things as boxes--which was as far as i got.
here's an actual photograph: i can't believe in this day & age it's not being done with a PC.
Our high school drafting classes were optional. We did it manually like in the photograph and we also used Autodesk Autocad...
