A good friend is talking seriously about getting a french bulldog, they are all the rage in his circle and he would be a good dog daddy. However, I've always heard they have breathing problems like the english bulldogs. I have an american bulldog who does not have this problem, but they are bred to have longer snouts. Anyone have experience with the french variety? What are the problems, if any? What about temperament - do they play nice with others?

The only French bulldog I've ever been around wheezed constantly. Drove me crazy.

Oh boy, do I feel authoritative. If you read mysteries, I refer you to Jonathan Kellerman's stories. His child psychologist/detective has one, with no mention of the problem. The dog seems quite laid back, by the way.

There! I've set you on the right track.
