What is billed as the world's first "full-service" retirement home for gays will open its first 20 condominiums Monday.
When RainbowVision Santa Fe is completed next May, the 183,000-square-foot complex on 13 acres at 500 Rodeo Road will have 60 condominiums, 60 apartments and 26 assisted-living units.
People who have bought condominiums at RainbowVision say they did so because they expect it to welcome their lifestyles. Anne Linn, 67, described herself as a "late-life lesbian" who didn't come out until she was 51. "At my age, I don't like to waste what time I have left," she said in a RainbowVision news release. "I decline to put up with negativity, so I try to surround myself with positive, life-affirming people."
Another buyer, Kenneth Ahlquist, 75, said he'll move to RainbowVision from Washington state because he likes Santa Fe's weather and cultural offerings. "I am hoping to find a male lover who likes to travel and attend cultural activities," he wrote. "If he cooks, all the better!"
Pets will be permitted at RainbowVision. Ark Veterinary Clinic is next door.

This is a drawing of one of the German retiremant homes.
This is in Berlin, opening in spring 2006
The building was until last year a 'normal' retirement home
It has/will get 110 apartments (with full service, if wanted) and 40 nursing places.
My browser started to read this as "open its first 20 condom" - but then I scrolled across and saw the rest.
