Carbon to diamond

Hi everybody, I'm not pretty sure if the reaction that forms diamond from

graphite is standard.It happens under high pressure and high

temperature ( 600-800) .

Standard?

Do you mean say Carbon can arrange itself in 4,000 different ways, but can it arrange itself in only 40 at extreme pressures and temperatues - on only one - diamond? I think the last is true!
