If can find it, I'll post a HS yearbook pic of me in my big hair days.

I wasn't trying to pass myself off as Nuge... he's pretty hard to copy. I was just funnin.

I (re-) found recently my father's "Abitur" photo, from March 1938. (More than half of his class didn't survive WWII)

@jespah,
I had as much hair at his age (perhaps even a bit more!), both when I was 18

... and when I was 22 (my father in 1942, in Russia).

@Walter Hinteler,
graduating from middle-school - april 1948 .
we were a mixed lot - ranging in age from 17 to 21 - some had served in the army in the dying days of WW II - but decided to continue their education .
since there was still strict rationung ( to end just two months later ) most of us were wearing jackets or suits borrowed from older brothers or our fathers .

while we may have looked pretty sombre , we were a happy lot .
i'm in the middle row - second from right

"real life" started shortly there after : anyone wanting to enter a trade or profession (which we all did) needed to serve a minimum of 2 1/2 as an apprentice (being paid a "stipend" - about 1/10 th of what a tradesman or professional earned . )

@hamburger,
march 1993 - 45 year anniversary reunion .
15 of the old gang - and their better halves - showed up for it .
we spend a whole week together at a " resort " (a youth-hostel owned by the hamburg school board and located on one of the east-frisian islands) .
we all had become "burgers" - well-fed and still a happy lot .
while we had met some of my friends over the years when visiting our families in germany , this was the first re-union we attented .

(yours truly is the one with the most colourful windbreaker )

A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL !

fast forward to 2003 - the group is a little smaller , but still sticking together -
they usually have an annual get-together .
this was a gathering for an evening and afternoon - to share a meal and lift a glass !
we missed this year's 55 year anniversary - but hope to still see the old friends again sometime .

no group picture this time .
i am second from right with my two best school buddies .

it seems that our better halves have as much fun as the "boys" - probably telling each other that the "boys" are still a crazy lot .
mrs h is on the left .

@Region Philbis,
RP :
going through the photo albums , selecting pictures and "trying" to remember what happened , is really quite a bit of fun .
during these cold evenings we often dig up our photo albums and say : "remember ? wasn't that interesting ? " .
there was a TV ad recently (can't remember what is was for) that was shot inside a cable-car going up sugarloaf mountain in rio .
my wife said : "don't tell me were crazy enough to ride up there ? i didn't realize how high we would be off the ground before i got in - never again ! " .
looking back is usually quite enjoyable - even when it was high off the ground .
thanks for your commments , RP .
hbg
