1. Is milk a kind of colloid? Our chemistry teacher told us "NO". But when today I was reading an article in NASA's website I found this:
Quote:
This book-sized container holds ten sample cells filled with colloids, or tiny particles suspended in fluid. A hundred times smaller than a fine human hair, colloids are everywhere. Milk, paint, makeup and smoke are just a few examples.

confusing...

In a pot of boiling water, bubbles of vapor begin to form at the bottom of the pot and grow until they escape into the atmosphere. The water exists simultaneously in two states -- liquid and gas. If you could increase the temperature and pressure much higher than the average stove and pot allow, the water would reach its critical point, where the liquid and vapor cannot be distinguished.

Also from NASA.
Well does it mean that the "critical point" is much high than the boiling point?

Thank you

A colloid is a suspension of one phase in another, This can be a solid in a liquid (milk paint), a solid in a gas (smoke), a liquid in a gas (mist). and a immiscible liquid in a liquid (again milk & paint). Collids are heterogeneous and not usually clear materials.

Critical points are where two phases of a pure material are indisquinsible. With water the critical point is about +374°C and 3212 psi.
