My husband and I and my mother-in-law are going to be in Vienna for a couple of nights next month and could use some advice on where to stay. I have been searching the Internet but it is all very confusing with not being familiar with the area. As we have such a short time there we want something that is in walking distance to most of the main tourist attractions and yet still reasonably priced and clean...and must have it's own bathroom in the suite. Does anyone have any suggestions they can share? From what I have seen, it looks pretty pricy there so I want to make sure we are making a good choice. We will also be staying in Prague for a few nights so again....if anyone has some advice there, I would love to hear it. Thanks, everyone

vv, Try to find accommodations in the "Ring" where most of the attractions are. However, public transportation in Vienna is very good, so finding accommodations should not be difficult.
Don't miss Schonbrunne(sp) Palace, and fit in a concert if you can.
Metro, Bus & Tram
The public transportation system of Vienna includes an elaborate system made up of metros, trams and buses. The U-Bahn is the underground train and the S-Bahn is the suburban train. Pick up a free tourist map at the tourist office and go to town. Maps are sold at the stations for 1.50 EUR.
On trams, be sure to open doors using latches or pushing buttons. If you do not open the door yourself, it will not open and you will miss your stop. And, of course, look like the tourist you are.
I suppose, you'll don't find any hotel without bathroom en suite - but a lot, which would fit your need.
We stayed twice at the
Carton Opera, which is a fairly good 3* hotel, close to the Inner City, but in a calm side road, and at reasonable price.
Btw: try to get some online offers - and compare them!!!

HRS isn't bad at all.)
