1.key in the first 3 digits of your phone number -not the area code

2. multipy by 80

3. Add 1

4. multiply by 250

5. Add the last 4 digits of your phone #

6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone again

7. Subtract 250

8. Divide by 2

Start taking it apart.

Step 7 undoes the effect of step 4 on step 3. You can remove steps 3 and 7 without affecting the answer.

Step 8 can be eliminated by removing step 6 and changing step 2 to multiply by 40.

That leaves:

3-digit prefix * 10000 + last 4 digits

I like this

I'm gonna use it on a quiz to see how well people follow simple directions. If done correctly it has one of those 'aHa' hooks at the end.
