Exactly, d'Artagnan. That's what a paladin is -- a knight errant. So Boone becomes, in effect, The Black Knight. The humor was waaayyy too sophisticated for the average TViewer.

Nobody has yet answered my question of who was the realDurango Kid. Not Charles Starrett, but a stuntman who later became a TV star in his own right with at least two series that I know of.

Letty, the answer is Jock Mahoney who later became The Range Rider and then had a very short-lived series called Yancey Derringer.
(I think LionTamer is right on the Buster Brown guess.)

You're right, lionman! Very Happy

Andy, did Jock Mahoney play tarzan, too? That name is really unusual, but rings a bell, somehow.

McCord III as Capt. Fry
Yancy Derringer Theme Song

"Yancy Derringer" music by Henry Russell and with lyrics by Don Quinn
They sing of Yancy Derringer
On every danger trail,
On riverboat, in manor house

And now and then in jail.
They say that Yancy Derringer
Had ruffles at his wrists,
Brocade and silver buckles
And iron in his fists.

Yancy, Yancy Derringer,
Yancy, Yancy Derringer
In every tale of derring do
They tell of Yancy D.

Well, I did look that up!

Was Jock Mahoney ever Tarzan? Hmmm. I don't know. The Tarzans I remember were Johnny Weissmuller, Lex Barker and, on TV, Ron Ely. And does anybody know the name of the very first Tarzan in the silents? (No fair Googling!)

Buster Crabbe came later. The very first movie Tarzan was Elmo Lincoln.

Ah, Andrew. Then my sister was wrong. Told you I didn't google it. Razz

In Virginia, I had a friend whose real name was Buster Brown. Seriously.

Not to worry, Reyn, You're the tops in the montage department.

Another question:

From whence came the kid on the cracker jack box?

Little Jack Horner? Just guessing. (Haven't seen a Cracker Jack box in years.)

Nor have I, Andy, but I was intrigued by this:

Cracker Jack Trivia

In 1912, toy surprises were first put into every Cracker Jack box, since then over 17 billion toys have been put into boxes (1986 estimate).
"Take Me Out to the Ball Game," written in 1908 by Norworth and Von Tilzer contains a reference to "Cracker Jack" in the lyrics.
The boy on the Cracker Jack box image (left) is Sailor Jack and his dog is called Bingo.
The Sailor Jack character, and his dog Bingo, were introduced as registered trademark logos in 1919 and in use as early as 1918. They were modeled on F. W. Rueckheim's grandson, Robert, and his dog.
The Cracker Jack Company was sold to Borden in 1964.
In 1997, the current manufacturers Frito-Lay purchased Cracker Jack from Borden.

Hey, at least I can remember the Cracker Jack stuff. What were the prizes? I know you did years ago in puffed wheat cereal.

Oooh, now there's a whole topic! They used to have great prizes in boxed cereals. Remember the little guy that would walk down a little ramp by itself?
