I just saw an interesting story on the news this morning. In Boston, the Fire Commissioner ordered that the doors of a Dorchester fire house be repainted. The had American Flags painted on the doors with the numbers of the fire trucks inside along with the numbers 343 in the corners in memory of the fallen New York fire fighters in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Mayor Manino stepped in after the fire fighters complained. He ordered the painters to stop and now the doors will be restored. Good job mumbles!
There was no real reason given for the Commissioner's decision to repaint them in the first place. The fire fighters were up in arms because many of them went to New York to help in the rescue and clean-up efforts. This memorial meant a lot to them. I'm glad to see Mayor Menino stand up for the people serving at this small station and order the restoration of the memorial.
It is very surprising how a member of the Boston Fire Department could order such an act. What the hell was he thinking?
