Problem with my receiver...

I just moved, so I obviously had to re-hook up my home theatre.

One of the rear surround speakers doesn't work.

It's not the speaker, I tested it by replacing one of the fronts with it.

It's not the wire, I took a short speaker cable and connected that with the speaker right next to me.

My questions:

1) Do you think a channel in the receiver is shot?

2) Anyone in the Boston area know where I could take it to have looked at/fixed? Even though I purchased it used through a friend, it's roughly an $800 receiver brand new(Harmon Kardon), so replacing it isn't exactly cheap.

Ok bitches, show me why A2K is an "expert" website.

From your description it sounds like you've got a blown channel. one last thing to check would be the rear speaker balance control just to make sure that speaker isn't shut down. (You didn't list your model so I have no idea if your's allows rear balance control or not but if it does...)

T/H Electronics in Arlington and The Service Bench in Norwood are the local H-K service centers.

Hope, you get (cheap) help, slappy!!

Had had the same problem yesterday with the front speakers (Infinity speakers, not cheap as well, Denon receiver, players).

And after a loooooong time and ex-checks, I finally noticed that all was set on "B-speakers" Embarrassed

Nice.

Mine are Infinity speakers as well. I wanted to purchase some tower speakers, but now I have to worry about this. Currently the front and rear are the same size. Need some better mid-range.

Got the α-line: rather small (besides the bass box), but in real wood. Fits excellent to our interiour ... and has an excellent sound as well.
