Cinquain poetry, derived from the Japanese haiku and tanka traditions, was modified by Adelaide Crapsey (an American woman) about 100 years ago to fit polysyllabic Engligh-language verse. It consists of 22 syllables distributed as 2, 4, 6, 8, 2, in five lines.
For those who find the 3 lines allowed in the
neverending haiku thread a little restrictive, or who just want some variety, here be the Cinquain chain.

To recap from the haiku thread, the first line of the next person's cinquain must be the same as the last line of the previous person's.
