"Either human intelligence ultimately owes its origin to mindless matter; or there is a Creator. It is strange that some people claim that it is their intelligence that leads them to prefer the first to the second."

Do you agree or disagree?

@tabi,
I'm more interested in why so many "Christians," ignore what Jesus said and focus on hatred and division.

@tabi,
The religious believe a creator used mindless matter to create life. Atheists believe mindless matter encountered favorable processes that gradually evolved into life. Either way mindless matter becomes life and intelligence. One an unnatural being playing chemist, the other a natural process not requiring magic.

It's a lot stranger that some people claim that it is their faith that leads them to prefer the second to the first.

@hightor,
Lennox is the one who debates Dawkins regularly.

I wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with either of them.

@tabi,
For sake of argument, let's say the Christian god is the right one, the true omnipotent deity.

Who do you think he would look more favourably upon, people who live decent lives, but cannot bring themselves to believe he exists, or those who are certain of his existence but twist Christ's message to their own malign purpose?

The thing is, Dawkins actually knows something. Just shift the conversation to genetics and evolution and you might have a pretty good discussion. I'm currently reading his Genetic Book of the Dead and it's a hell of a lot more interesting than debating some stodgy theist.

@hightor,
Lennox knows something too, he's a mathematician.

I still wouldn't want to spend time with either of them.

I have seen Dawkins being interviewed and his smug authoritarianism really annoys me.

I don't have any time for those who think they know what's best for us.

But you were talking about being stuck in a lift – I figured you wouldn't have any problem avoiding authoritarian lectures on his part! And evolutionary biology is more interesting than higher mathematics – I've found that he makes genetics easy to understand. I saw him being interviewed by Bill O'Reilly (a FOX News guy) and it was excruciating. O'Reilly just couldn't grasp simple stuff like the ******* tides – I wish Dawkins had never started his public atheist career. Just present a well-developed account of natural history and let people come to their own conclusions as to the need for a supernatural cause. Anyway, if you find yourself in that situation don't bring up religion and you'll be fine. Smile

@hightor,
You don't know me.

I'd talk about how his wife got her tits out in Penthouse when she was in Dr Who.

What would really kick things off is she didn't pose for a shoot, they were stills from a film made before she was in Dr Who.

None of that would stop me though. Like I said I don't like the guy.
