The Humane Society of Canada is trying to help save pets in the aftermath of Katrina and reunite them with the owners. The FEMA policy is to leave the animals behind. This site gives you the contact information of FEMA so you can express your opinions concerning this policy. You can also donate to the Humane Society's rescue effort:

Bumpity bump.
Animals rescues have succeeded in saving many pets, but the news is definitely mixed.

Bump
<is it doing any good?>
One of the groups within the rainforest clicking pantheon is involved with this.
Thanks for all the bumping guys. 69 people have looked at this thread - if just one of them donated something, it was worth the effort.
i think animal planet is raising money for the shelters housing the animals. yes i am a dork and watch animal planet at night (i watch the animal cops shows because i am always in bewilderment what people do to their animals-some of these people deserve to be chained up for two weeks with no food or water...)
check animalplanet.com-here's a link to their efforts.

DORKS UNITE!!
Another suggestion for donations is the ASPCA:
http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer
I made a donation and receive daily email updates of their progress- a Rescue Diary- pet reunions etc.
They are also offering an option of getting an ASPCA credit card. The first time it is used an automatic donation of $75.00 is made to the ASPCA.
