A few things I don't understand in Chemistry reading

Hello,
I am using the textbook, "Chemistry: The Central Science," for my class. There are a lot of thing's I don't understand in it. One of which is are alpha rays electrons? Are gamma rays nuetrons? The other thing I can't seem to make any sense of is the law of multiple portions. Its written down, but I don't understand what the definition means. Can some-one explain it to me?
Thank you,
Larry.

Alpha rays are electrons. Betas are helium nuclei (2 protons and two neutrons). Gamma is high energy light--way up in the X-ray energies by planks law E=hnu where h is planks constant and nu is light frequency.

As for multiple portions---everything in chemistry is integer mathematics, once you realize it is on a molecular scale rather than by weight.

Fer instance a mole of water is 2 moles of hydrogen and one mole of oxygen, and it goes from there.
