I know a few writers still frequent these forums. I need a cover for my book, EndEarthers. I don't have the money to hire it out. Can somebody tell me like I'm a four year old how to get a free one? I can get free images with ai programs, but I don't know how to get the title on them.
@edgarblythe,
If you use AI, you will need to tell Amazon. I know that's true for writing; not certain if it's true for covers.
You will need to use a website like Canva. It's free and you can upload your own images there.
I opened the drawing program on my PC and made my own cover.
EndEarthers
Six story collection
QUIET BENEATH THE MOON
Denny, aging 60s activist, has his solitude shattered by his running mate of old, Doc Ramos. Doc tries to steal Denny’s car. After he dies from bad drugs, Nellie Ramos, Doc’s sister, visits then stays. Along with Denny’s gay twin Danny and friend Karma, they endure out of control weather and a coup on the Federal Government, led by Andrew Spud as their world disintegrates.
OVER HERE
Until now America’s wars have been fought “over there.”
FROM THE TUMBREL FELL
Talking heads..
THE CHIMPANZEE
A rescued lab animal tests its new freedom. It harbors enough resentment that it seeks to be the first animal in history to get back more than some of its own against the humans.
TEAPOT’S EMPIRE
Edgar Jost is visited in his fertility clinic by his secretive friend Teapot (Teague Potsworth), who has come to show off his greatest achievement. He displays a creature that is a wide blend of DNA in the form of a hamster-sized cockroach. The cockroach becomes 1/3 parent of Ulysses, an exceptional lad.
THE CENSUS TAKER
Jarzeed, census taker for the Galactic Federation, travels with his companion and pilot Starkey. They land on a planet that is likely Earth, a thousand years in the future.
I spent the day editing my presentation before it could reach the publishing process. I believe I got it right this time.
@edgarblythe,
Good luck. We’re rooting for you big time.
@Ragman,
Barring new glitches it should be available in paperback for 10.99 sometime next week. Once it gets launched I intend to make ebooks available.
My book is now paperback as well as ebook. I searched it by title at Amazon and found it, but they note it is not yet available. It can be found on several other platforms when it gets released.
@edgarblythe,
It was rejected by Amazon, as I predicted. Barnes and Noble and several other stores have it.

When I searched Amazon it posted that my book was out of print and may never be back. But a few minutes ago my cousin said he ordered it from there. I'm so out of my element.
No Amazon listed.

My Amazon issues are resolved. It is available there. But what I am here to post concerns making my own cover or paying for one as opposed to ai generated covers. If you consider objectively you pay nothing for ai instead of giving big bucks to an artist. But here's the thing: In either case the cover work is not your endeavor. It's the artist's or the program's. So why is one less acceptable than the other? I made my own out of necessity but have no qualms about ai covers.
@edgarblythe,
Much of AI (images and more) is derived from scraping the internet and not paying artists for their intellectual property. It is a ton of copyright infringement. And before you say anything about copyrights existing for too long, my friend Sarah Anderson has had her work yoinked by AI, and she's only been writing for about the last 12 years.
@jespah,
Ok, that makes more sense than my post. At any rate I experimented with ai images when first offered, but now try to have nothing to do with ai for artwork, regardless of what I said above. As for writing and other ways of interacting with ai I try to have zero connections. I've never had an ai conversation or knowingly logged on to anything that smells ai.
I didn't set out to make money off of friends and family, but quite a few already bought copies. Their perception of me has to change if they read that stuff. I rarely let them know that side of me. I use the GD term in it. I know it's bound to upset some of them. I hope at least a few enjoy it and don't blame me when I (possibly) destroy humanity.

Yep. A daughter just messaged me: "Dad, I didn't know you knew cuss words."
My reply: "Did you forget I was in the Navy?"
I was on the Ancestry book site when a message intruded to tell me my book could be had cheaply at their site. I clicked to have a look. They claimed to have 50 copies of my book for sale for $3 more than Ancestry. I haven't figured out who they are and if I stand to make any money should they sell any. My guess is they would keep it all.
