Shouldn’t there be a full stop after “August” and “however” be capitalised?

John lost five kilograms in August, however, he gained it back in September.

Shouldn’t there be a full stop after “August” and “however” be capitalised? Thanks.

A full stop and a capitalized "however" or a semi-colon and left in lower case.

John lost five kilograms in August. However, he gained it back in September.

John lost five kilograms in August; however, he gained it back in September.
