Thank you so much, Noddy & Montana, for your thoughtfulness & kindness. And for sharing my "troubles" with me. I've appreciated you both, I really have.

But right now I shouldn't be online at all. I've been working furiously as part of phase 1 of The Plan. (The bit of it about finding more suitable ongoing employment. A real worry.) I popped online to do a quick A2K catch up, promising myself I'd indulge in absolutely no posting. But osso's sad news about her beloved Pacco's death put paid to that. I'm moved to tears at her loss.

But now I must, I must (!) get offline again & get back to work!
Thanks again.
I trust that life is being good to both of you right now!

Now watch this!
I'm going to be really, really strong & log out of A2K immediately! By the time this post appears I'll be gone! How's that for being firm, strong & focused?

One day, margo, when I'm rather wealthier that I am at this very minute, I will visit, I promise.

And then you'll be so sorry you asked! Twisted Evil

Yes, I did.

I have been rather too rushed off my feet today by other other demands (& I mean demands!) to respond.

Thanks kindly for your concern, Deb.

But I suspect it's just another boring tale of woe. <sigh>

Very kind of you to say that, but sometimes I even bore myself.
Strange but true!

Right now I'm trying to figure out how come a woman who has done so many wildly different (& very successful - & I'm not "up myself" here) things in her working career can have so few "official" (read employable) qualifications in those areas!

Just goes to show ... I should have stuck to the straight & narrow. Apparently. Narrow but safe. <sigh>

... but I believe I'm on the right track with a solution (& an interesting, challenging possibility) for the future. But it's certainly been a rocky ol' road getting here!

Sure. Retraining into a field of education that's in far greater demand than the one I'm currently in. (Which is looking more & more like a dead duck & just about impossible to get anything looking like ongoing work in for a person "outside" the system.) I've been looking far & wide (outside of education) & have come to the conclusion that it's wiser to build on my existing qualifications & experience rather than attempting to venture into something entirely different at this late stage of the piece. I have plenty of experience but absolutely no formal qualifications in the (literacy) field I want to retrain into. Come to think of it, I have quite a bit of expertise (but no formal qualifications) in a number of different areas I've worked in while teaching. I don't quite know how this situation came about.
... Yes, I do! I followed my interests & abilities & didn't pay much attention to promotions in the narrow field I'm (formerly) qualified in. My curriculum vitae is a very interesting read!

So...you're on a paper chase re formal qualifications in literacy, which you can already teach, but don't have the papers to prove it?

Is that the gist?

If so, how long and how expensive?????

Short and cheap, I hope....with lots of credit for your skills?

Pretty affordable, Deb & a shortish course. It's a new(ish) approach to literacy (here in Oz, anyway) that a growing number of schools are incorporating in their programs. Lots of in-servicing happening. But a real, formal qualification is absolutely necessary for me to get work as a teacher in this field. It's the gaining the necessary experience that's a more daunting prospect (for someone outside the education system, like me right now) I think I'll have to volunteer my services to a school using in the particular literacy program I want to become qualified in. (Say, one day per week & for some time) That's fine with me. It'd be worth it to get from A to B. I've made enquiries. It's do-able.
