@tsarstepan,
What are yours?

I'm having a hard time coming up with a favourite anything from this year except maybe that people have returned to to pre-pandemic life, for the most part. Not a great year, IMO. Not terrible (could be in Yemen, Haiti, etc), but not great.

@Mame,
Same here, Mame!

2022 was kind of non-descriptive. I had high hopes in the beginning, it started out fun and exciting, but then fizzled out soon after March. Book? "Lessons in Chemistry" was more memorable than others. I couldn't tell a movie now....
Netflix had this awful show "Squid game" - horrible!
Then there was this really cute, feel-good series "Extraordinary Attorney Woo"
(if you haven't seen it, you should, it's so cute).

Liz Truss killing the Queen. She was fine until she saw what was to become the next prime minister, no wonder she decided to cash out.

Two more incredible movies I saw at the end of December.

Women Talking (2022) and Living (2022)
Both showing some of the best acting from 2022. The first one shouldn't work (by the premise alone). A group of Mennonite adjacent women debating on whether to leave their colony, stay and fight, or stay and forgive their husbands and families for the decades of assault and abuse.

The second one is a remake of a very classic Akira Kurosawa film but has a career topping performance from Bill Nighy.

These will get the Academy's attention come Oscar season.

@tsarstepan,
Yeah, I'd like to see the Bill Nighy one. It's not here until the 20th.

What does "Mennonite adjacent women" mean?

They never say what religion the group belongs to. I suspect it's a completely fictional religion created for the book. They're similar (belief and practice wise) to Mennonites (at least as mentioned by film reviewers).

List of overlooked films from last year according to The Guardian.. I've not seen any of the films so I can't really comment.
