Who Am I - Fame Game

Hi all:

I don't know how successful this thread will be - might pall soon. I got the idea while watching a quiz show (for those of you in Oz: its Temptation) - they have a segment called the Fame Game where there are a couple of significant facts given about a famous person and its up to the competitors to guess who it is. I thought - why don't we play it here?

The rules, as I see as the most simplest are:

- facts are given, as many as you want but make sure they are important facts
- the person must be well known (not, Joe my next door neighbour!)
- the person who guesses it first will be the starter of the next mystery person, unless they waive that chance.

If anyone else can think of other suggestions, please tell me!

I'll start first:

I was born in 1902 in Sydney NSW and died in Australia in 1983. The daughter of famous naturalist, I started my career as a teacher before taking up office work. I left for London in the 20s and married the writer James Blake. I wrote a number of books, my most famous one being "The man Who Loved Children." With the name of Christina and a last name starting with S, I am Christina who?

<Hope this works> Confused

Christina Stead it is Wink

****************

So my turn:

I was born in the mid 1800 in Europe. After a successful military career, I developed an interest in social studies.
I saw society as a collection of antagonistic ethnic groups,
and I also have written books about sociology. In the course
of my life I also became a judge. You all know my name -
who am I?

Is the answer Sigmund Freud?

Hope it is , my turn

Although this British author wrote many books for adults, he is best known for his action-packed children's books filled with memorable, magical and often bizarre characters. Many of his works feature children triumphing over cruel and beastly adults.
He was born on Sept. 13, 1916, in Llandaff, Glamorgan, Wales. His family moved to Kent, England, his father died in when he was 3. The author himself died in 1990 at the age of 74....

roald dahl...?

I think it is! It can't be JK Rowling as she isn't dead...

If it is roald dahl, I waive my chance to make a new profile. Whoever sees this can take the next turn.

It is Dahl but I'm pretty certain the previous one isn't Freud.

An English author of racy adventure stories laced with mysticism and ancient lore.Born 1856 to Norfolk gentry.Senior civil servant and expert on agriculture.Friend of Kipling and Andrew Lang.Stunning user of English Language and rather politically incorrect by today's standards.Popular with both young and mature males.

Come on Cal.We are not that good.I've been driving around all day cruddling this thing and I could drive around for the rest of my life without coming up with Ratzenhofer.I never heard of him.
You are supposed to pose something a bit easier or you just being feminine.

I'm a lady of extraordinary intelligence with a wide range of skills and I am fantastically courageous.
The television commentators tried to give viewers the impression that I piloted the shuttle back to safety which of course I didn't because I had a pilot specially trained for that in my squad.I was the commander of the mission and,as such, have other more important duties.

I'd rescue you if I could.

Wriggle over to the fridge and get the door open.Get the butter and rub the ropes and your wrists in it.You should be able to work loose if you keep trying.Once your hands are free it easy undoing the knots round your ankles.

Okay here goes.

I was born Feb. 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky. My parents were both born in Virginia.
My mother, who died in my tenth year, was of a family of the name of Hanks.... My father ... removed from Kentucky to ... Indiana, in my eighth year.
He was a captain in the Black Hawk War, spent eight years in the Illinois legislature, and rode the circuit of courts for many years.
He married Mary Todd, and they had four boys, only one of whom lived to maturity.
Who am I?....
