There are lots of places where his theories can be discussed and challenged by scientists.

He knows where these places are but he is too scared to go there.

This is a comfort for him, a shelter from the real world without being challenged.

I don't know about you but my background is Literature, I don't know enough, or care enough to challenge any of his theories.

One thing I do know about is prevarication and evasiveness, and he's as evasive as it comes. Whenever he's asked why he's not discussed this with real scientists he gives some bullshit excuse that a six year old would be ashamed of.

Based on that it's reasonable to assume he knows his theories are a load of old bollocks and that they'll be shot down within nanoseconds of being shown to a real scientist.

That's why he's here, it's a comfort it's safe.
