Buzzing sound in earbuds when not in use?

I've been noticing this strange sound in just one of my earbuds that almost sounds like "tapping"?? Kind of buzzing-like. (Hard to explain idk)

It only happens when they are plugged in and don't have any sound going through them. It doesn't happen when they're unplugged or when I'm actually using them. It's in the right ear only.

It's not really a big deal because like I said I don't hear anything when there's real sound in them, but I just wonder if it's a sign of damage or if it could cause a problem in the future?

I know water got in them about 4 months ago, although I just noticed the sound about a week ago. I mostly worry if this could be a sign of water damaging them.

Does anyone have any info?

(btw they're Sennheizer brand and I've had them for a few years)

@Kayster ,
Do you hear the buzzing when connected to your computer or phone?

My earbuds will make a slight buzzing noise when not in use, usually means they are fully charged and ready.

@jcboy,
Yes, I hear it when I connect to any device and I'm not playing sound.

It isn't really a constant buzz, it kind of almost sounds like a tapping, where it goes on and off quickly. (if that makes sense at all) It's also only in one ear, I assume yours is in both?

@Kayster ,
There are many causes for the buzzing noise in headphones issue. One of the common reasons is the electronic interference. ... Apart from that, the hardware issue can result in the buzzing sound from the headphones. In addition, the software issue, such as driver corruption probably causes the issue.

Only one ear for me as well, and it’s always when I take the earbuds out of the charger. Mine does it to let me know it’s fully charged and is connecting to Bluetooth. That’s the only time I ever hear it, never when music is playing.

@jcboy,
Oh, okay. That's interesting. Probably no reason for concern then, thanks

@Kayster ,
I wouldn't be concerned. As long as you don't hear any buzzing while listening to your music you are good to go!

And you're welcome Razz
