I eat food instead of supplements most of the time but do sporadically use milk thistle, Lugol's Iodine, cod liver oil, and a few other things.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for voting my thread up peeps! I feel terrible complaining about votes because the people I care about are the ones who lose the benefit of this discussion.

A month ago I was taking milk thistle but I was taking Berberine with it.

Berberine makes your body more sensitive to insulin (and it works!) but the Berberine was irritating my lungs. So I stopped it. The milk thistle is supposed to prevent lung and liver inflammation.

Another side effect of Berberine was weight loss, which was great!

I am leary about cod liver oil because of possible mercury levels in fish.

I read somewhere that flaxseed oil does the same thing as cod liver oil.

I take 2 Moringa capsules a day, I am not sure what it really does but so far it has not had any bad side effects. You can make tea from it too which I have not tried yet. I have a very strict no caffeine policy.

Moringa

Fisetin
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08M99BR1N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Quercetin
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NRYTPM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you are over 50 I would suggest getting on quercetin and fisetin ASAP!
A few weeks of them can suffice but I am on them permanently for now. Also they have no known side effects

How do I choose which brand of supplements to buy?

I like them to be made in the USA, I like them to be inexpensive, and "Amazon's Choice" I read the reviews, bad ones first. But I don't always put a lot of credence in the bad reviews. Often a bad reaction to a supplement can be due to other ailments a person has. Where a person says it did nothing for them maybe they did not notice the benefit.

Also I may buy a certain brand because it includes another ingredient that enhances its effect or makes it is more likely to get into the bloodstream.

So a few basic factors influence my choice of brand.

@TheCobbler,
Words like pure, organic or unrefined are also a reason to buy one supplement or oil brand over another.

Also, if heavy metal tests have been done on some supplements that is a plus.

Back to zero rating for this thread...

Some people on this forum are petty, know it all jerks...

I will be back here to share my knowledge when this thread gets some respect.

@TheCobbler,
I eat flax seeds most mornings, ground in my bullet thing and consumed with the rest of breakfast. As for moringa, I have a moringa tree in the back yard. It's a tropical plant, so all it does is grow. It rarely produces flowers or seeds. But I have the leaves.

@edgarblythe,
From what I have heard it is the leaves that are the most beneficial from the moringa tree.

I also take vitamin K2.

I watched a video a short while ago that said getting vitamins from your diet is fine but often we do not get enough vitamins, nutrients etc from our diet. In fact this is often the case. So our body is smart and it utilizes the vitamins and nutrients for the most vital organs in our body first. This is why vitamin deficiency can often take a long time to manifest itself into illness. The parts of the body that do not receive vitamins for prolonged periods of time take longer to malfunction. So it may seem like we are getting enough from our diet but we are, in truth, not. My philosophy is, I would rather pee them out than not have enough.

@TheCobbler,
I believe they say you pee them out incessantly because they want your money when you need a doctor and medicine for going without enough viatmins.

@edgarblythe,
I am sure they want our money but they often deserve it because they are like many other things providing a service and I do not mind paying for good and healthy services.

The doctors certainly have motivation to keep us sick also.

My doctor has never even heard of many of the supplements I take.

I also take Biotin, my fingernails are on the thin and brittle side, I am hoping they will become more sturdy over time.

I picked this brand simply because it is inexpensive.

I had read about dried versus fresh moringa and wanted to share this

A study was carried out to identify some nutritional properties of Moringa Oeifera leaf and to compare the nutritional qualities of fresh and dried leaves of Moringa Oleifera.Two samples each of fresh and dried Moringa Oeifera leaves were used for the experiment and the mean values in their nutritional qualities compared. The results revealed higher nutritional qualities in the dried samples compared to the fresh samples. The percentage fat, crude protein, crude fibre,ash, carbohydrate, nitrogen, potassium, sodium and calcium of 2.50, 11.00, 15.30, 9.30, 49.50, 1.80, 1.30, 0.80 and 0.60 respectively were recorded for dried Moringa Oeifera leaf while the percentage fat, crude protein, crude fibre,ash, carbohydrate, nitrogen, potassium, sodium and calcium of 1.0, 3.86, 1.50, 2.70, 16.9, 0.60, 1.10, 0.50 and 0.20 respectively were recorded for fresh Moringa Oeifera leaf. I will recommend that the fresh sample should be dried so as to attain it maximum potentials.

@edgarblythe,
That is very interesting Edgar!

I am glad I have been taking the supplement.

I wonder if other parts of the plant, stalk and flowers end up in the supplement.

I asked on Amazon if my supplement came solely from the leaves and did not get an answer.

That may account for then discrepancy. It seems reasonable that some things do become more potent when you dry them.

@TheCobbler,
Not a supplement, but if I have problems with my nails I have jelly, what you call jello.

That works really well.

@izzythepush,
I love Jello but it has a lot of sugar.

I tried the unsweetened gelatin and it tastes like ground up cow hooves.

I do eat sugar but try to keep it reasonable.

I take collagen peptides and biotin instead.

3 huge collagen pills a day.

@TheCobbler,
The trick is to find something to hide the gelatin in. Maybe add lemon-raw honey to it.
