Look at this weird flower from my yard -- it has petals growing in the middle part:

Kinda neat!

Benign mutation.

In two years you'll be hoarding that blossom for Show & Tell.

Good idea!

I think there is some kind of freeze dry gell that you can save them with -- it IS a pretty cool flower.

I think I got a wacky packet of seeds - most of them grew to about 4 feet then bloomed. Some stems have several blossoms. Meanwhile, there are two stems that are about 9 feet tall and still growing.

Some are bread for that on purpose.

They breed them to have the petals poking out of the center, little k?

There are about six blooms on this stem and this is the only flower with the pokey petals.

It looked so odd -- maybe it's normal!

Ok, I can't even think of where to start looking. But, I do know I've seen this type of flower head being sold in flower magazines. Greenwitch would know more. I'd guess that the pattern comes about when flowers are bread for fuller flower heads. Some end up half-way. What type of flower is that? Black eyed susan?

Cool!

Maybe I need to keep an eye on the other blossoms to see if they develop this nutty thing too.

I know the seeds were from Ed Hume.

well, those are echinacea, yours must be sunflowers.... at nine feet tall, I can't think of what else they might be.

Mine are sunflowers. The one this bloom appeared on is only about 4.5 feet tall or so.

The same packet of seeds produced the 9 foot tall plant. It has yet to bloom but it seems to be still growing. I swear, you can practically watch it get taller by the hour. I'm hoping that it has a huge flower so I can add a nice photo to Mo's garden gallery! (He planted all this stuff so we're documenting.)

Aw, that's cute, boomer. I love to be able to document the kids' progress. Too bad the little one broke my digital.

Ummm.

Can I say what I think?

If so....

Tell that cheapskate employer of yours (yeah, yeah, I know) to get you a new damn camera!

And to pay your health insurance!

(Or have things changed? I don't get around much anymore.)

Boomer, things are the same. I just can't make the parents responsible for their son dropping my camera. I know what the kid's like. I should have kept it away from him. A new camera is in the works for xmas (group gift from my family).

If I'm not mistaken that kind of bloom is one of the signs of the Apocalypse... but I could be wrong.

Avocados with not pit. And I believe Karl Rove actually having to face jail time.

Well, we can only hope both come true. Maybe this apocalypse isn't such a bad thing.
