After China attacked the world with COVID-19, life has changed for all of us. I feel the same way about Christmas 2021 as I did in 2020. I don't have the Christmas joy that once encamped all around me at this time of the year in terms of merry-making. I am anxiously trying to find the joy of the holiday season but too no avail. Can you relate?

@nycdad,
No, because China didn't attack the World with Covid 19, and if I thought that I would be delusional.

America's problem with Covid is down to the response and having the most useless arsehead from hell, Trump, as president.

@izzythepush,
1. You are free to like whoever you like.

2. If Jesus never returns, are you going to blame Trump, too?

3. I am bald. Should I blame Trump?

4. You are delusional if you think Biden is better than Trump. Biden cares nothing about legal citizens. Are you an illegal alien?

5. Trump wants to put Americans first. This is the only reason why he is hated.

What does all that have to do with the Christmas spirit lacking in you?

Apparently a giant Christmas tree in NYC was set on fire by an arsonist.

@nycdad,
Are you suffering from depression in general?

There are many people who struggle more with depression during the Christmas season. The expectations are so high and there is no time of the year with more disappointment.

Take care of yourself.

@Mame,
It is impossible to live in this world (look all around) without being depressed. I live in NYC. This place was once a paradise. It was a city of dreams. It has become a haven for illegal aliens, drug lords, child molesters and a dumping ground for anyone and everyone who hates patriotism and the United States.

Should I mention the 1973 Roe Versus Wade demonic court decision to legalize abortion in the United States? The blood of millions of aborted babies cries out from the grave for divine judgement. I just can't be happy living in a world where evil is daily on the rise.

How can you sing Frosty the Snowman when neighbors are starving? How can you sing Silent Night when there is violence all around us? Should I go on? To celebrate any holiday when there's so much evil and death in the world is to be selfish. This is how I feel.

I am not surprised that a lunatic decided to burn a famous Christmas tree in a city that has been falling apart since the democrats took over. I have been living here since 1969. New York City is lost forever. It's a city too late to be rescued from those who mean to destroy it. Trust me, it's too late.

The people of NY are protected by those in power who hate patriotism, the Constitution and the American way of living. George Washington is one of my heros. Did he own slaves? Yes, he owned and cared for slaves. Who didn't own slaves back in colonial America?

What does America do? We allow idiots and thugs to destroy our statutes that represent history in the name of what exactly. Keep all that junk to yourself. Burning a Christmas tree will not destroy the reason for the season. Of course, the monkey who decided to do this criminal act has his head so far up his backdoor to think clearly. Stay away from me.

@izzythepush,
Like whoever you like. Decide which yellow brick road to follow. Trump wants to put American citizens first. What's the crime in that? An American citizen wanting the best for his own people. Oh, what a crime.

You say yes. I say no way. By the way, I am not some White guy born into a rich family with the greatest lifestyle on Earth. In fact, I was once homeless. I blame no one for this situation.

I am Hispanic. I am former Navy. I love United States. I love and miss the freedom we once had. I totally reject socialism and stay far away from anyone who thinks that jumping over our border wall to demand jobs, free checks, welfare and/or taking jobs away from legal citizens is cool.

Trump said this:

THEY ARE NOT AFTER ME. THEY ARE AFTER YOU. I AM JUST STANDING IN THEIR WAY.

The YOU in Trump's statement represents all legal citizens of the United States.

You mean the real estate speculators/money launderers like Trump?

@nycdad,
There is also a lot of good in the world.

I definitely think you should seek therapeutic help. You are focused on the negatives in the world of which most you honestly cannot do anything about.

Alot of how one feels is perspective. Instead of focusing on your starving neighbors go to a food bank and volunteer....this gives you some control over the negatives and can boost your negativity by helping out instead.

Instead of focusing on crime...read about positive stories...the druggie who worked hard to fight his addiction and is NIW helping others. There is many bad and evil things but there are also many very good things. Looking at that perspective, getting therapeutic help and volunteering to help in a small way to be a positive influence on society would go a long way to change your perspective.

@Linkat,
Good in the world? Where? Who? The Bible tells me otherwise. Ever read the book of Revelation? Take time to read it one verse at a time. The world is so good and people are so nice that God destroyed the world with water long ago and will soon destroy it again with fire. God is wrong and we are right. We have no idea what lies ahead.

One word about good....Jesus.

You are again focusing on the negative. What will it change and what will happen if you continue on this path nothing good that's a definite. .however if you start making small changes to focus on the good many changes could happen. Say you decide to help out at a food bank...you could make a change in every persons life that is receiving food from there.

If you decide to be kind ...some little old lady is having trouble bringing in her groceries you help her out...you just made a positive difference in her life...even a kind word to someone you do not know could make them lighten up and change a bad day into a goid day for them...and in return you realize you are valuable and can help other people...that alone will increase your happiness.

I cannot change you but you do have the power to change yourself.take small steps say today I will do a random act if kindness...it doesn't have to be big....someone drops something..you pick it for them...someone shirt like me can't reach something at the grocery store you offer to get for them. And move onto bigger things volunteer somewhere ..if you like animals volunteer at an animal shelter...if you like the elderly volunteer at a nursing home...there are so many positive things one can do.

The story of Richard Patterson, once you delve into it, is consonant with Pape’s research. Trump appealed to him as an “in-your-face, brash ‘America First’ guy who has the interest of ‘We the People.’ ” But there was more. Decades of personal and political grudges infuse Patterson’s understanding of what counts as “America” and who counts as “we.”

Where Patterson lives, in the Bronx, there were 20,413 fewer non-Hispanic white people in the 2020 census than in 2010. The borough had reconfigured from 11 percent white to 9 percent.

Patterson came from Northern Irish stock and grew up in coastal Northern California. He was a “lifetime C student” who found ambition at age 14 when he began to hang around at a local fire station. As soon as he finished high school he took the test to join the Oakland fire department, earning, he said, outstanding scores.

“But in those days,” he recalled, “Oakland was just beginning to diversify and hire females. So no job for the big white kid.” The position went to “this little woman … who I know failed the test.”

Patterson tried again in San Francisco, but found the department operating under a consent decree. Women and people of color, long excluded, had to be accepted in the incoming cohort. “So, again, the big white kid is told, ‘**** you, we got a whole fire department of guys that look just like you. We want the department to look different because diversity is all about an optic.’ ” The department could hire “the Black applicant instead of myself.”

Patterson bought a one-way ticket to New York, earned a bachelor’s degree in fire science, and won an offer to join New York’s Bravest. But desegregation had come to New York, too, and Patterson found himself seething.

In 1982, a plaintiff named Brenda Berkman had won a lawsuit that opened the door to women in the FDNY. A few years later, the department scheduled training sessions “to assist male firefighters in coming to terms with the assimilation of females into their ranks.” Patterson’s session did not go well. He was suspended without pay for 10 days after a judge found that he had called the trainer a scumbag and a Communist and chased him out of the room, yelling, “Why don’t you **** Brenda Berkman and I hope you both die of AIDS.” The judge found that the trainer had “reasonably feared for his safety.” Patterson continues to maintain his innocence.

Later, as a lieutenant, Patterson came across a line on a routine form that asked for his gender and ethnicity. He resented that. “There was no box for ‘**** off,’ so I wrote in ‘**** off,’ ” he said. “So they jammed me up for that”—this time a 30-day suspension without pay.

Even while Patterson rose through the ranks, he kept on finding examples of how the world was stacked against people like him. “I look at the 2020 election as sort of an example on steroids of affirmative action. The straight white guy won, but it was stolen from him and given to somebody else.”

@thack45,
Racism and bigotry dwells in the human heart. Hating is the result of the fallen condition of mankind. We all dwell in racism. Do you like everyone you meet? No. It's not about skin color as much as it is about civilized behavior versus gangster style. The main culprit, however, is sin.
