Hi,

I found that I am weak in calculating percentages.
Could you please suggest ways of learning this well. Some good websites would be very useful for me.
Questions like
Price of a share was : 4000
Now the price is : 5000.

What is the percentage increase?
this is a very simple question but I get so confused.

Please help.

Regards
Bhairavan (sriram)

Dr. Math is a pretty good source. He has some pretty good examples and word problems involving percentages in the middle school library.

Remember percentage is effectively decimal notation multiplied by 100.

1) find the increase. 5000-4000, it increased by 1000

2) then find what percent this increase was by dividing it. 1000/4000 = 1/4 = 0.25, so it is a 25% increase
