It is a long-running, well loved show with good ratings.

The obvious choice is Jodie Whittaker.

Apparently the new host ran a podcast in which he called his co-host demeaning names. This was while he was at the Price is Right where there were also complaints about him.

If he does host I will boycott the show. That'll teach 'em.

Alex was the best, period! I wouldn’t mind Aaron Rodgers, though. He seems to one foot out of the NFL, too. He doesn’t seem to like how he’s treated in GB and he’s searching for thrills and limelight. Hosting Jeopardy is interesting and make it look smooth is a lot like hard work.

@Ragman,
I know. Go on YouTube and type in Auf weidersein pet Oz, and see if you can understand a word he says.

It is English

I can’t post links sorry, otherwise I’d post it here.

@edgarblythe,
Why not?! Though, I’m not sure if she’d have the focus.

Now, if Frank were still alive...?

@izzythepush,
I’ve been watching a fascinating YouTube interview with Jimmy Nail about his time growing up in Newcastle and his acting gig as his character Oz on Auf Weidersen. I’m hooked. I pretty much understand him but when and if I can find it streaming, I’ll switch to closed captioning.

Amazing that he’s chosen stage named switched to an aptly-named Jimmy Nail. Bradford wouldn’t have had the same impact, pardon the pun.

@Ragman,
I lived in Newcastle for two years, it was a bit of a culture shock coming from the South, I’ve got Yorkshire relatives but that was even further north than that.

I had a great time though, was really made to feel welcome.

@Ragman,
Auf Weidersein Pet is a very funny television series about a group of construction workers from all over England and Wales, working abroad.

One of those comedy dramas that did very well over here, lasting about four seasons, they went from Germany to Spain, then Cuba, and finally moving the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge to a Native American resort.

At the end a message comes up on the screen to say the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge is still in Middlesbrough.

I don’t think the BBC have tried that hard to sell them overseas because it’s full of very strong regional accents, Liverpool, Swansea, Newcastle, Birmingham and London. One of the comic devices is the difference in how they all talk to each other and the underlying tension with the German site managers.

@izzythepush,
Yeah, that was shown in the short intervals on YouTube and interview with Jimmy N. He’s no ones fool. He quit drinking and cleaned up his act amazingly, after serving time in prison.

What it showed me was a surprising level of insight into sociology of groups of itinerant who are displaced due to economic pressure from shipbuilding disappearance in homeland. Not too mention learning about how Newcastle residents differ from other parts and of course from Germans and Germany.

@izzythepush,
OK, I'm sold, I'll be searching for it later online. When I first joined the adult workforce I worked mainly with military and retired military. It was in the middle of the VietNam War and many of the older workforce had served in WWII and Korea. Because men were drafted from every state in the union accents were diverse and misunderstandings would crop up from time to time. DOD also recruited at colleges around he country so even the civilians were from mostly out of state hires. I remember there was almost a knock-down drag out over the pronunciation if the word 'creek' (as in water way). One red faced man kept saying 'crick' and the other insisted it was 'creek'...neither on convinced the other and each pronounced the other to be stupidly illiterate.

I mostly enjoyed the differences in accents, idioms, traditions and traditional foods served. But I also grew up in an area where a lot of immigrants from Eastern and Western Europe and Russia had settled in the late 1890's and early 1900's. More arrived after WWI and WWII so almost everyone I knew had a grandmother who spoke broken English and made fabulous traditional foods from their homeland.

@glitterbag,
I’d watch it with subtitles to be safe, the Geordie dialect can be very confusing the first time you hear it.

It’s more Norwegian, there are tales of Norwegian and Geordie fishermen meeting up at sea and understanding each other even though they didn’t speak each other’s language.

They really botched that whole process. It's a shame to stain such a great show with all this nonsense behind the producer naming himself above other, better options. Plus it sounds like he's got some questionable things in his past. I feel like they could have gone with jennings and been just fine.
