I never thought of you as a Trump supporter despite your attacks on anything you can construe as being of the left. Hmm

Let's analyze Edgar's statement here... it is interesting. He is implying that I may be a "Trump supporter" as if that were a bad thing. But let's think about what being a "Trump Supporter" means.

I greatly dislike Hillary Clinton. I voted for Hillary Clinton anyway because I thought that Trump would be a horrible president. I like Joe Biden. I voted for Joe Biden because I like him, and because I feel Trump was, in fact, a horrible president.

However, Trump won a free and fair election in 2016. That means he was president (which I support). I also know that 46% of American voters voted for Trump in 2020... it is clear that Trump represents something that is important to many Americans.

It is foolish to not accept that.

So I guess there are two relevant things.

1) I am critical of the far-left (even though I am almost always on the liberal side of policy issues). The angry, constantly outraged, antagonistic rhetoric coming from the far left is not something I feel is good for the country.

2) I support the moderate left, and I feel that if we are going to make progress, we need to reach out to all parts of the American society. This includes LGBT people, and women, and minorities... and yes White Men. Pitting one half of the country against the other doesn't solve problems.

Does make me a Trump Supporter (in spite of the fact that I never voted for Trump or wanted Trump to win)? I don't know.

I guess that is a question for Edgar and Farmerman.

Yet you rail at farmerman and others who are centrists rather than far left on most everything they post.

@edgarblythe,
No, that video does not contain a clip of him saying ""If everybody can vote no Republicans will ever be elected again." Please give me a link to him saying that.

Come on, man, you're smart enough to do a search aren't you? I found this in about fifteen seconds:
Quote:
“It’s just a common fact. They have a majority in the House, and therefore you need their votes, and they want to get certain things. I will tell you this if you look at before and after, the things they had in there were crazy. They had things, levels of voting that if you ever agreed to it, you would never have another Republican elected in this country again. They had things in there about election days and what you do, and all sorts of clawbacks. They had things that were just crazy.”

This does not contain the words "If everybody can vote no Republicans will ever be elected again." Please include that quotation or a link to it. I believe that edgarblythe has simply lied or else believed a lie that he heard without checking it.

more people and everybody is close enough to carry the meaning. You just want to nitpick so you can ignore what it means

@edgarblythe,
I believe he was talking about a Democratic bill to change voting rules. He said it badly, but I believe he was saying that if mail-in ballots were sent unsolicited to every person on voting lists, including people who were dead or had moved away, it would make it very easy to cheat. He's talking about keeping people from voting who actually aren't eligible to vote or not eligible in that jurisdiction because they've moved away.

The perpetual liberal claim has been that Republicans want to stop eligible voters from voting, but the truth is that Republicans want to stop ineligible voters from voting. We believe that if you require people to show up in person and present ID of some sort, or at least allow them to mail in a vote only when they specifically request a mail-in ballot, you'll have less cheating. We think that cheating is actually occurring.

That is what you are saying.

Yes, he is. AND HE IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

I think that cheating is actually occurring also. The Republicans have been cheating in recent elections regularly...and caught at it.

But if the Democrats have been cheating on the scale you people seem to think they have...and have won elections because of that cheating...

...let them run the country. IF THAT IS SO...THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

They have not been cheating on anywhere near that scale. The Republicans pushing the many bills they are pushing are NOT trying to control cheating...THEY ARE TRYING TO CHEAT...by limiting the vote.

@Brandon9000,
Change voting rules to exclude the ones he fears will keep him from winning is exactly what it means

@edgarblythe,
And that reflects the anti-democratic premise by Trump and many of his supporters that some citizens' votes are worth more than others - contrary to the equal protection clause in the 14th Amendment.

For farmerman's initial proposal to work it might be necessary for some good Democrats to run as Republicans.

@edgarblythe,
If these good Democrats were to have success in the Republican primary, they would have to be moderates. This would make me happy.

Of course you could have the same results by having good moderate Republicans running in the Democratic primary.

We have a number of Democrats in office who vote like Republicans but no Republicans who vote like Democrats.

That certainly is a point in favor of the Democrats (although it seems like your counterparts on the right do an awful lot of whining about RINOS who do exactly that.)

We should vote in more moderate Republicans.
