A rectangle and a triangle have equal areas. The length of the rectangle is 12 inches, and its width is 8 inches. If the base of the triangle is 32 inches, what is the length, in inches, of the altitude drawn to the base?

What is the area of th rectangle? You know the length and width so you know enough to determine this area.

Now what is the formula for the area of the triangle? You know the base and want the height(altitude).

Now set the area of the triangle equal to the area of the rectancle and rearrange to yeild the triangle height (altitude).
