Hi. I don't know how many other people on this site use Yahoo! Answers but the site is shutting down soon.

This message was posted there for all to see:

"Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4th, 2021 (Eastern Time) and beginning April 20th, 2021 (Eastern Time) the Yahoo Answers website will be in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page."

The link that says "help" that is highlighted in blue leads to this:

https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN35642.html

How do you folks feel about it shutting down? Will you miss it?

I am trying to ask as many questions on Yahoo! Answers while I still can before it goes into read-only mode. I still have a few days to ask questions and a while to archive all my questions before this site shuts down for good.

I will miss the site. I get tired of having to find NEW Q-and-A community sites to go to. I do a lot of research online and unfortunately there were a number of sites I was on that I ran into issues with and a number of other sites shut down, with and/or without notice.

Quora is one site I ran into issues with.

Please help. Thank you.

When you say issues you mean that your behaviour on that site resulted inyou being banned.

You don’t ask questions, you load them with a ton of assumptions. You already know what you think the answer is and that’s what you want to hear. When you don’t get the answer you expect you get nasty.

Look at your thread on firearms used by certain rural people, you made a lazy assumption that one group uses a rifle and the other a shotgun. When Farmerman, who has experience of these groups, told you it was nonsense you got nasty.

And that’s it, you believe the World is a particular way and you want to hear from people who will reinforce that viewpoint. You’re not interested in the truth or research, just in being told you’re right.

@JGoldman10,
As someone else who does use Yahoo Answers, I'm not going to miss that much. The quality of the questions have been declining and some of the users I have encountered are not great, to say the least.

While I do answer questions, I haven't asked one in over 10 years as many of my questions can be found using Google.

If anything, I will just use Quora.

@Rebelofnj,
Good for you.

In a few days the site will be read-only and it will eventually shut down in May.

I have been a member of this site since '06 and I had more than one account. I don't remember every account I had nor do I remember what email addresses and screennames I used to set them up with but I know a few of them didn't last long. I know I asked 100's of questions at least, maybe even 1000's of questions on the account I currently use and on the very first account I used on Yahoo! Answers.

I have a wealth of info that was provided in the answers to questions I posted. I don't want to lose it.

I am going to hurry up and archive my questions with answers.

@Rebelofnj,
If I were you I would archive the questions I posted on Yahoo! Answers before Yahoo! Answers shuts down permanently.

@JGoldman10,
I'm not going to waste time doing that. Nearly all of my answers are my opinions on trivial matters like "how are the Star Wars sequels?" and "which Marvel Comics are the best?". The rest are answers other people want and I personally don't need them.

Not even going to bother to save the 10 questions I asked on that site because all of them are no longer relevant or useful in my life. I don't really need people's opinions on Aquaman from 2010.

@Rebelofnj,
Okay. I was just making a suggestion. I don't know what types of questions you asked on there - I don't think I ever saw them. Didn't you make your questions private anyway?

@JGoldman10,
No, my profile is still viewable.

At this point, I don't really care what happens to it. It will be gone soon enough. Luckily for me, there is nothing important to me on there.

I am happy that Yahoo! Answers at least had the decency to let people know their site is shutting down.

I am a little annoyed that they aren't giving people more time to ask questions and/or archive stuff.

They kind of sprung that public notice on patrons out of nowhere at the last minute.

There ARE a FEW things I WON'T miss about Yahoo! Answers when it's gone.

I won't miss getting questions reported and deleted and I won't miss getting accounts suspended.

I just recently posted a question asking Christians which American political party is worse - the Democrats or the Republicans. It was answered and I already picked a Best Answer. It was closed and up for a short while and as of the time of the posting of this I went back to it and it was deleted.

I put in a request to download data from Yahoo! Answers, but I am wondering does this apply to ALL Yahoo! Answers accounts I had or just to the one I use currently.

Good riddance - won't miss it a bit and haven't used it in years. I've never found it a useful place to get a legitimate answer on anything anyway. Use Quora if you want real answers from real people.

@Nonothing,
I liked Yahoo! Answers. I have a huge wealth of info provided to me in answers to questions I posted there.

I used Quora once and I ran into issues using the site.

I called Yahoo! about this. They said you CAN put in requests to download data from more than one Yahoo! Answers account, as long as those accounts weren't deleted and/or suspended.
