You'll be lucky to find anything for less than $1,000 a month.
A front page article in the San Jose Mercury News this morning claims that housing prices in Silicon Valley went up 18 percent, and the average cost of a home is now $705,000. Scary.
Even here in rural England prices are through the roof. My house, which cost £150K in 1998, is now apparently worth £350K. That would be nice if one didn't have to buy another one if it's sold. Best way of making money would be to move to Malaysia - and I believe they are hoping expats will flock to their new developments which have pool, maids etc. and still cost relatively little. I'm thinking about it. I like Malaysia - but I wouldn't like to live in a little ghetto of foreigners.
US$70000 is about $94000 in Australia. In my area, that wouldn't buy a block of land. I got a really good deal on my house 3 and a half years ago for $160000. Last valuation was about $300000.

I'd love to retire to Thailand as a millionaire.
Wilso, There are plenty of places on tis planet where you will be "considered" a millionaire - because of the currency exchange rate. As you probably well know, the exchange rate for the US dollar (AUS$) runs about 8,000 to one.

You like the chickens (whores) in Thailand?
This thread has suddenly taken a bit of a nosedive! Re Malaysian houses - any recommendations of where to find some on the Net, Futurist?

I thought that when I read his description of people who are just doing what they need to to survive. I hate that word.

Here is a new shirt that is appropriate:
Linkat, That t-shirt is perfect for our area in Silicon Valley. Prices in our area increased by 18% this past year.
I love the "If I pop, you're screwed." I hear that the mortgage companies are not very happy with this shirt.
I feel that would be appropriate in England too - our area's prices increased by 17.5% so we're on a par with Silicon Valley! Where can I get that T shirt??!
My BF and I just bought our first house in July of this year and we live in central Florida, by reading what everyone else has wrote, Florida isn't that bad.....We have a House that has 3bd and 1ba with one car garage its about 1200sq, and it was built in 1959, but it was completly re-done, all new tile, new cabinets, new a/c,new roof. Its also block (since we have all those hurricanes down here lol) and we are paying $140,000. I'm not sure how much we could sell if for right now, b/c we just bought it.
