cazdaisy

condition that needs to be ironed out - anaemia (?)
bite midge back - tang
hobos unwilling - bosun (ho bosun willing)
life energy - chi (mu chi nspiration)
a neater girl - Anita
UK theatre school - RADA

6d - it would help to know what 25 across is but it sounds like you need to remove the "r" from 25a and also a "t" at the front - I would guess the answer is EMINENT (noted).

Hope these help.

Re: lovatts holiday no 53 crack the cryptic
Hi cazdaisy,

I don't know if you've found the answers to these yet - I've only recently 'got upto' Holiday Collection 53 Smile "Only" the stinker and cryptic to finish.

(18d) standing in police headquarters st?p???
I guess you have/had 'expands' for 26A. That's 'extends' (former spouse = EX, looks after = TENDS). So, 18D is STATION, meaning both police HQ and standing (someone's station in life etc)

(43d) condition that needs to be ironed out ???e??a
At first I didn't see how ANAEMIA 'fitted' the clue - but you take iron tablets to treat anaemia! (Very clever clue setting by the Lovatts team)

(16a) stoically wrote initials inside bank ???i?n?d?g
RE-SIGNED-LY (Rely = 'bank on')

(43a) from Japan like "beefy" ??i?n
I still haven't worked that one out yet but, with 'anaemia', it begins with an 'a'

Of course, since your post was over 2 weeks ago, you may have finished the whole cryptic by now. Entries aren't due until Aug 18 so have plenty of time to finish them.

I thought it was mishap, but that doesn't go with aspects (280d)
