“Shortly before I resumed work during my hospitalisation leave in February 2016, I tripped and fell down on the road at a car park.”

Is the sentence clear and correct?

Thanks.

@tanguatlay,
No it is a bit ambiguous, it suggests you started work while you were hospitalised. When exactly did the incident in the car park take place? Was it when you were discharged or still a patient?

How severe was the accident, did it stop you going back to work?

I don’t know the answers to those questions so the following answer is based on guesswork and assumptions.

When I was discharged from hospital in February 2016 I tripped and fell in the car park, resulting in......... (being readmitted to hospital, or minor cuts and bruises.)

Thanks, izzythepush.

Actually, to me the sentence is badly constructed. The interesting thing is I asked a friend whose command of English is good and she said it was fine. That baffled me as to how she found no fault in the sentence when it appeared ambiguous to me.

@tanguatlay,
Your friend probably knew your situation and could fill in the gaps.

@izzythepush,
No, it had nothing to do with me. It was written by another person. What he related was to be included in an article to be published in a magazine.

I wonder if the sentence makes sense. How could he or she be working during hospitalisation leave? Does hospitalisation leave imply that he or she is still in hospital. If so, how could he or she be working?

@tanguatlay,
People can still work from their hospital beds, Boris Johnson and Donald Trump are prime examples.

@tanguatlay,
I just flipped the two phrases to make more sense in the introductory adverb clause.
