Which sentence is clearer and a better choice:

He called the customer to make him aware.
or
He called the customer and made him aware.

@LBrinkmann,
They are both rather vague. It would help to continue the sentence by indicating what they are being made aware of. With such an adjustment, the second sentence would be the better option.
