He was 78 and died after complications from heart surgery. He was a singer and songwriter, including writing for Elvis (I did not know this).

I really liked him. Good voice and decent writer. I sort of remember him on a summer replacement show. That I’m not sure of.

I know he wrote songs for Elvis and did write “In the Ghetto” and “Don’t Cry Daddy”, “A Little Less Conversation” and “Memories”

i'll always remember him as the star QB in North Dallas Forty (1979)...

Ahhh, that’s right.

Mac Davis did have a variety show from 1974-1976.
