Hello roverroad,

I used irfanview to remove the redeye.
It doesn't change them to baby blue but to a greyish colour, but it's better than red!
Irfanview is a free image viewer http://www.irfanview.com/.
I don't have the privilege to mail you a copy of the modified photo unfortunately!

Rover: Shilo was beautiful! Did you name her for the Neil Diamond Song?

My mom named her. I've never named a cat before. My ex-girlfriend named Tasha. I probably would have picked something dumb like Smokey for Tasha and Mittens for Shilo. I'm glad people intervened.

roverroad,

I'm sorry! I didn't mean to get your name wrong. Please forgive me for that.

I run a cat shelter so I know what it is like not knowing the history of cats.

But, she does look more Himalayan than Siamese to me. Her head is not quite as pointy as a Siamese. She has more the roundness of the Himalayan. Either way, she is absolutely gorgeous!

She sure thinks so Laughing .

Anyway, all of my pets have been beautiful to me, simply because they seem to go out of their way to provide me with the best unconditional companionship. In return I buy her the healthiest food I can find. You see, Shilo didn't have a very good life during her last couple of years. She suffered from diabetes because we gave her table scraps, she loved it! She liked Spaghetti the most. But she died blind and incoherent.

Tasha on the other hand has never even tasted people food. I'm determined to get a good 20 years out of her.

roverroad,

I'm not convinced that feeding a cat table scraps gives them diabetes. My cats always get table scraps. So, don't be so hard on yourself about that.

I am so thrilled to hear you made her life happy! A lot of the cats I get here at the shelter have been abandoned or neglected. They get spoiled rotten! It's important to me that they have a good quality life. I am very fussy about who gets to adopt my babies!

Bless you for taking those beauties into your heart.

Roverroad: Momma Angel is right in some respects.
The scraps weren't the sole reason your kitty
developed diabetes. That might have happened anyway. However,it is best for their overall well-being if they only get cat food. {according to our veterinarian}
P.S.: "Smokey" and "Mittens" would have been cute names for the kitties !

lindatw,

Yes, I do have to agree with you. They should not be getting table scraps. I do try to limit them to actual meat and not much starch. I guess I need to work on this.

Tasha is prone to urinary infections. The only food that I've been able to feed her without a relapse is Iams Original or regular tuna in water. And when I give her tuna, all she does is drinks the water and leaves the tuna, so I just started giving her the water and using the tuna for my sandwiches. She's a finicky cat which is good. Everything else causes her to have blood in her urine, and that can't be comfortable! She's been OK ever since I've caught on to her dietary needs.

Roverroad: You and Tasha complement and bless each other's lives. What does her veterinarian say about her infections ?

Well, the veterinarian in Oregon yelled at me when I had to take her back a second time because of infection. Then he gave me another bottle of amoxicillin and booted me out the door. That was about 8 years ago.

When I moved to Boise 3 years ago I started buying her the cheap grocery store cat foods again and within a month she got sick. I told the vet here in Boise that she was prone to urinary infections and back on the amoxicillin she went, I changed her diet back to Iams and she's been fine ever since.

Okay, got two new babies in today. The orange one's name is already Precious. Why is it that when a cat has a name like Precious, Sugar, Sweetie, etc., they are anything but? She doesn't look too happy does she?

The black and white one has no name. So, anyone have any ideas? I love this cats face. So much personality.

The orange one does look agitated. She must have a no pictures clause in her contract Smile . I want my next cat to be an orange one. I've never had an orange cat before.

I like that ~ A no pictures clause. She's just not used to the other cats yet. Some hide for awhile, some fit right in, like the black and white one.

She will be okay. My husband loves the orange cats, especially with the long hair. I am really partial to the gray and whites myself.
