Do you mean a metaphorical desert like Facebook and television or a literal desert? In any case, both. I spent some time in Big Bad National Park which is part of the Chihuahuan Desert. And, of course, I have wasted half my life watching television and Facebook. I've stopped watching tv but still am on Facebook, aka the meme nation.
