Word Problem:

A radio transmission tower is 100 feet high. How long does a guy wire need to be if it is to be connected to the top the tower at a point 30 feet from the base?

Do I use the Pythagorean Theorem here?

Assuming that the tower is perpendicular to the ground--yes.

If the tower is parallel to the ground the guy wire is anywhere between about 130 and 70 feet.
