"....A rainy day is a day when the rainfall at a point received is above 2.5 mm in 24 hours...."

rainfall at a point ! Confused what it means ? how can we measure that ?

we at most can take a beaker and place under the sky and collect water for 24 hours . beaker has scale on it, so we could measure how much cc has been accumulated. that should be a measurement.

but look they are saying, if the rainfall at a point exceeds 2.5 milimeter then we will call it a rainy day. i dont understand how they are measuring rainfall at a point. this is very confusing measurement system.
do you have any clue ?

You collect the rain in a beaker, and the water level inside the beaker is the water level at any of the points.

It may be referring to 'a point in time', tintin.

That is - it's a rolling 24 hours. So at any point in time, you look back 24 hours at the measurement.

It may not have reached the 'rainy day' measurement between 3:15 a.m. on one day and 3:14:59 of the following day; but it may reach that standard between 3:17 a.m. and 3:16:59 of the following day.
