Michael McClure, Beat Generation poet, dead at 87

Michael McClure a poet, novelist and playwright, has joined his fellows of the beat generation in the great poetry reading venue of the next phase.

Born in Marysville, Kansas he suffered a stroke a while ago, which may have contributed to his exit. McClure is survived by his wife Amy Evans McClure, daughter Jane, son-in-law William Eggiman and 2 grandsons.

One of the greats, along with Allen Ginsberg, he was a reader at the Human Be-In back in the San Francisco of 1967, which was more than a decade after he broke on to the scene at San Francisco's Six Gallery.
