Shonen Knife means a little boy's knife. The lead player and the bass player jammed together when they were in high school, but they needed a drummer, so the lead player told her younger sister: "You're a drummer now." They became a popular cult band in the U.S. in the late '90s.
Really liked their God Shuffled His Feet (1993) album. Though, this song sounds like a failed attempt at an indie-rock based musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. It's not terrible. It's kind of good. It's just mockingly mawkish.
I listen to both albums often. Give yourself a hand in my favorite. I heard it first around '98 traveling in Canada on business. I love Canadian radio. Bought several discs after that trip.

That was the band that turned me onto Japanese rock. Napster was good thing. It allowed me to try music I later bought on disc when I liked it. I think I'll go dig out a couple I have of Shonen later today.
