Might effective antiviral treatments become available much sooner than a vaccine?

It's a possibility.

Of course they will likely only reduce symptoms, not drain the Covid-19 from your body. There has been rumor that some sort of medicine used in the past for assorted ailments might be helpful here. The U.S. President says it is available now, the FDA then said it would be over a year.

Vaccines on the other hand, require more than a year of testing and development.
