Remove windows update component (uses my entire ssd drive)

I bought a Asus netbook from my local store. It won't allow my computer to update to newer windows (im happy with windows 8.1). It finally today after months let me remove the update 833mb that allows me to install software again. How do I prevent this after several remove attempts on youtube?
