Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., when he became the 26th President, installed his entire family in the White House, including his daughter by his first marriage, Alice. She scandalized Washington, and when criticized about Alice, Roosevelt, who didn't appreciate comments about his family, said: "Look, I can do one of two things. I can be President of the United States, or I can do something about Alice. I can't do both." She was also famous for a particular shade of blue that she loved. This song was written about her.
