It's a slang word, considered vulgar. How it came about is a mystery to me. I've never read any explanation for how it appeared in the language. I can only guess that people with no medical knowledge simply thought of it as coming out of the body and began to refer to it in that manner.
Is "for" the correct preposition? If not, what is the correct preposition?

Yes, and although someone might offer another through some tortured logic, I would say that almost all native speakers would use for in such a context.
