If they seriously believe that the horrendous rate of potato consumption in society is likely to significantly decline in the near term due to a mental association with lazy viewers of the tee-vee, then i suggest they seek professional psychiatric help.

I know what you mean, Setanta ... I am totally addicted, too! I wonder if this has something to do with coming from a long line of peasant ancestors?

What's your favourite way of cooking potatoes?

I prefer either mashed or boiled (the latter i simply mash myself on the plate), which i then slather with far more butter than my arteries need.

Chips are OK, but only really good if you get them fresh and hot. I prefer "real" chips, and not those flash-frozen, sugar-coated things the serve in fast food restaurants.

I also make a truly wonderful potato soup, Boss. It would be great if eBeth and i could drop by and make some up for you.

I don't know if my Irish heritage makes this so, but if it is true, that likely explains it for you as well, you Ukrainian witch, you . . .

Laughing

I think that's the first time I've ever been called a Ukrainian witch, Setanta! I rather like that! Laughing

Yep, potatoes steamed or boiled with butter really does the trick! Very Happy

I have another way, too, discovered by reading Barbara Kafka's microwave gourmet books some time ago: new baby potatoes tossed with just a little olive oil & lots & lots of garlic. Cooked on high in the microwave (if you don't have an objection to this form of cooking!) for 10 minutes. Trust me, it's BLISS! Oh Yum! Very Happy

Stop it, yer killin' me . . . that sounds heavenly.

If i recall correctly, weren't you the originator of or in a discussion about the Ukraine which digressed into a discussion of witches?

I merely started a discussion about Ukrainian ancestors, Set. I discovered that farmerman & I had something in common! Very Happy Neither of us are "true blue"/living the heritage Ukrainians though... it'a ancestry. But no, I don't think the discussion digressed into witches ... not that I'd have minded! Laughing

The microwave garlicky dish I described is SO easy-peasy! Try it, Setanta! About ten cloves of smashed garlic, a tablespoon of oil & some baby potaloes with skins on. A bit of salt, if you're allowed. Toss the lot & put in a container with lid that can cope with the microwave. Easiest & most delicious potato dish I know! Very Happy

Screw those farmers . . . what a waste of time . . . if they don't like the term "couch potato," they can go pound salt . . .
